I have a baby Wood Thrush that I am being a surrogate mom to until he is ready to be released into the wild. He found his way into my garage about 10:30 one night and was in a stare off with my cat. Luckily, I got to the baby before the cat did! I started off that first night with a small amount of room temperature applesauce. Morning brought a trip to the grocery store to get him some Chicken and Rice (human) baby food. I have since added Chicken and Gravy and Turkey and Gravy baby foods. (These are the first stages foods and I dilute the baby food with 3 parts baby food to 1 part water to make the texture a little easier for him to swallow) He is also very fond of Meal Worms that can be bought at your local pet stores. These are NOT the freeze dried type of worms but the soft ones that are sold in the section where lizard/Gecko type of foods are found. Just be sure to avoid anything high in salt/sugar and fats. Natural foods are best as this is what he will eventually need to survive on his own!
