It came from the factory with R12 but as R12 is extremely expensive I recommend you have the system converted to use R134a.

The amount of Freon that goes into a 1995 Chevy Suburban depends on whether or not their is just front AC or front and rear AC. If the Chevy Suburban on front AC only it takes 3.0 pounds of r134a Freon. If there is front and rear AC then it takes4.25 pounds of r134a Freon.

The proper charging kit for a 1994 Chevy s-10 is a 134a - NOT a R-12. You can purchase this charging kit from most automotive stores.

There is a misconception that all refrigerants are freon. The EPA has band use of freon R12 in the USA. It is no longer produced stateside. The only refrigerant that is acceptable for automotive use is R134A. If you are to attempt to service your air conditioner you will need to know the exact amount needed. It is very critical on cars.
