Currently, Egypt is a de jure Presidential Republic, which means that there is an elected parliament and an elected president who is the chief executive. The president is supposed to be relatively powerful. However, in Egypt, President Sissi has an inordinate amount of power and basically functions as a dictator.

It is unclear at the moment since Egypt is still in a transitional state from the Arab Spring.

What we do know is that on paper, Egypt is a Presidential Republic with a Bicameral Legislature. Most executive power is vested in the President. The army operates as a separate governmental unit that retains autonomy but is inclined not to oppose the President's will. There is an independent judiciary as well.

What we seem to be seeing is that more and more power is being concentrated solely in the Presidency, resulting in a Dictatorship.
