This is highly, highly highly situational. Some bacteria grow best at 100 degrees celcius (or more) and yet others grow near zero. Most mammilian cells will probably grow best around 37 though.

I think you mean what size pot would be best to grow a small plant in? for a miniature plant (6 inches in diameter) use a 2 inch pot, for a little bigger use a 3 inch pot (6 to 8 inch in dia.) plant.
