His first marriage was a disaster for a nameless reason outside of the immediate family and remains undisclosed to this date. His Indian marriage to Tiana Rogers worked, but when Houston became determined and headed for Texas. Tiana determined that Oklahoma with an established trading post was a better life then for her then a new adventure in Texas, the marriage ended and she chose Oklahoma over Sam. At 47 and established as the President of the Republic of Texas, Houston married Margaret Moffette Lea that produced his progeny and his established home life.
