The children had to work in a factory. They were treated as machines, but less then that. They were considered replaceable. A machine isn't very replaceable (valuable and expensive). When they would get their finger cut off the boss would just fire them. The children had to work in the factory all their life because they did not go to school and didn't have a education.

-Factories, were very dangerous then, possible deaths, of getting caught in the machines!

-Coal Mines, also possible deaths, of explosions in the mines, and getting run over/badly hurt by the mine carts.

-Chimney sweepers, dangers of getting dust in your throat, leading into the lungs!

Yes they worked long hours ( 11.4 hours) and sometimes didn't have many lunch because dust would go on it from the mills. More children were hired because they were smaller to fix things easier cause bigger men would often have large arms. They were also faster and they didn't have to get paid as much as older men.

Childhood is a recent concept. During the industrial revolution, and for centuries before, children worked from the moment they were capable of tending farmland and animals and performing work suited for small people, such as cleaning chimneys and crawling under factory benches to retrieve scraps from amongst the machinery. What they were employed to do in factories beggars description. Many children died or were badly injured or maimed as the result of the work they were required to do, and while the luckier ones were paid a pittance for their work and the risks they took, many - especially on family farms and in family businesses - worked simply for a meal at the end of the day. Child abuse was rife; children were considered property even in loving families, and a child had no voice in its welfare and treatment, and no advocate for its wellbeing. Diseases such as rickets were common because many children simply spent all their day in a factory, a chimney or a barn, thus deprived of sunlight. Lack of good nutrition exacerbated this and so many of the undersized, undernourished and under-cared-for youngsters didn't make it to adulthood. Today experts speak of children having their childhood or innocence 'stolen' by various modern innovations such as marketing. How children were treated during recorded history shows the kids of today are actually allowed to have what we like to refer to as 'childhood'. There were no rose-coloured glasses through which to beam upon children in the past, and their fate hasn't changed in some developing countries.

What one result did the Commonwealth and the Industrial Revolution produce?

The Industrial Revolution caused the economy to grow due to the factory system and faster ways to make goods. Transportation became easier. Women and children began to get jobs, though they were paid less than men. Also, things like the steam powered locomotive (a type of train) and cotton gins were invented. It changed traditional American ideas and people started to think more "outside the box".
