If the tailgate is dropped hard it can toggle the locking mechanism. If you don't have a key to unlock the tailgate, you'll have to remove the plastic side of the tailgate (the inside) and flip the locking lever back to the unlocked position. While you have the cover off you might as well put some drops of oil on all of the metal moving parts inside the tailgate.
Remove the long access panel from the inside of the tailgate.Unhook the two metal rods from the handle on the inside of the tailgate.Remove the two bolts from the door handle located on the inside of the tailgate.
Hold the tailgate open about half way, release both tailgate straps, lift up and out on passenger side of tailgate, slide tailgate to the right, done.
open tailgate. unclip the cables that hold tailgate level they will unclip from the top anchor post without using any tools.then lift tailgate from left side so as tailgate hinge comes up from pivot point. then slide tailgate little to the left and you should have tailgate in your hands
When you pull the handle the left side catch disengages, but the right side does not. Looking at the handle, when it is pulled it catches and pulls a piece of metal towards you, disengaging the tailgate lock on the left side. However the lever or whatever it is on the right side does not come towards you when the handle is pulled and does not disengage on the right side, preventing getting tailgate open or down
Tailgate Party was created in 2009.
Open the tailgate, remove the retaining cables from the studs, pull out on the passenger side of the tailgate.
Most often the cause is two broken clips inside the tail gate mechanism. By pushing upwards you can remove the plastic bezel around the tailgate handle; its just snapped into place. You should now be able to see the mechanism under the handle. There are two metal bars coming in from the sides of the tailgate. These operate the latches on either side of the tailgate. They are attached to the central tailgate handle mechanism by plastic clips. One is pink and one is green; colored to indicate whether they go on the right or the left. You can get these clips from a dealership for about 5 bucks a piece. Hope that helps.
