Instant coffee is pre brewed coffee ready to rehydrate with boiling water. It dissolves and is ready to drink with no residue. Filter coffee is ground roasted beans through which you pour boiling water and the liquid is passed through a filter leaving only the fresh brew. The grounds stay trapped in the filter.
No you cannot burn instant coffee; during the process in which instant coffee is made it is roasted at 180 degrees, so when you pour boiling water (which is 100 degrees) over the resulting granules it is not possible to burn the coffee. However the taste of coffee changes distinctly depending on the order in which it is made. For instance if milk is added to the granules before boiling water the resulting taste is mild and creamy, on the other hand if hot water goes in first the resulting taste is full bodied and slightly bitter.
