Look on the oil fill cap but should be 5W20 or 5W30. 5W20 or 30 won't hurt since its formulated for newer engines. You just don't want to put in 10W30 or 40 if its not recomended. Its alittle thicker and if the passages are not open enough (inside the engine when it was manufactured) then when the oil is cold it will not pass through them well enough and could eventually cause server damage. 5W20 should be fine.
A 2001 Chevrolet S10 2.2 liter engine will hold approximately 6 quarts of oil. The recommended oil type is 10 W 30.
