Any name brand oil will do, but synthetic oils are better. Generally summer it is 10w30 and winter 5w30 for new cars and 10w40/10w30 for high mileage cars. However engine oil rated for diesel engines are best and you can get a synthetic diesel oil recommended by BMW from Bavarian Autosport, Lubro Molly, 5w40/10w40.

I have a 2001 325ci BMW with 150,000 miles. When should I check or change the transmission fluid?

A faulty thermostat in a 2001 BMW 325CI can cause a coolant leak. The coolant may be leaking out a crack in the thermostat or through a warped edge. In some cases the problem may be just a bad gasket and not actually a problem with the thermostat at all.
The 2004 BMW 325CI came equipped with two 2.5L 4-cylinders (engine codes M54 and M56). Both engines factory require European specification synthetic 5W40 meeting BMW Longlife-04.
