Conscious hip-hop focuses on the problems of society and has an enlightening message, so people may listen to it to get the message. Much of the "hip-hop" on the radio these days is pop rap, which is a form of Pop Music. People listen to it for the same reason that they listen to pop. In addition, some may listen to pop rap because of peer pressure. Finally, people who perform hip-hop dance listen to it because they want to dance to it.

It's the other way around.
