Nothing because everyone is dead from the Nuclear bomb dropped on it by Yugouslavia
To the retard who wrote this:
The dude wanted to know what was the population, not what it is now.
I think that they wanted to know the population before all of that crap like the bomb and the eruption happened, and I've seen 20,000 in a quite a few sites, so here you go. (And so did I)
*Yugoslavia, not Yugouslavia.
PS, you suck at punctuation and grammar.
We simply do not know the population of Pompeii at the time of the eruption. There had been no census in the area for years. There have been estimates of a total population of as low as 20,000 people to a fantastic high of 50,000 people and any number in between.
300 remains have been found preserved by the ash.
The estimated death toll is over half the population of Pompeii at the time, 3360.
Most buildings were destroyed in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79. The roofs collapsed and the second stories in two story buildings were destroyed, only the staircases remained.
We have no way of knowing the number of animals that died in the eruption that destroyed Pompeii, just as we have no way of knowing how many humans died in the disaster.
