A convergent boundary. In the case of the Andes, the oceanic Nazca Plate and

part of the oceanic Antarctic Plate slide towards the continental South American Plate. Because the former are heavier, they subduct (dive) under the lighter South American Plate causing orogenesis (the Andes) and corresponding volcanism (e.g. the Lascar Volcano).
