An INS (Internet Name Server) supplies names and numbers to computers on the internet. Large ISP's (Internet Service Providers) like Charter, Comcast, Road Runner & SBC own the INS's. The names and numbers are controlled by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names & Numbers).
which type of dns server contains the host records for the host in a domain?
You need to get the host of the server to provide you with their ip address. To do this,(on windows XP), go to start and choose "run", then type in "cmd" ,(this will open up the command prompt), in the cmd type in "ipconfig" this will give you the ip. Your host will also need to have there ports forwarded for minecraft.
The server address is the "IP" and you type it in the connecting to muiti servers box, and you join a minecraft server.
to ping a local host you would type what address
DHCP Server (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)

IP configuration server
Primary
DHCP server gives the IP address
Let's say you type in the host name, "www.google.com" into your browser. The browser will contact the DNS (Domain Name Server) and ask it for the ip address (192.117.0.1 for example) for www.google.com. This is what's called a forward lookup. The reverse lookup then is when the browser has the ip address but needs to find the host name for that address. So the browser contacts the DNS using the ip address and asks for the host name.
Global catalog server
Type "localhost" ( without quotes) into the server address.
