The Clatsop Indians lived in shelters that were built out of flat cedar planks that were similar to the modern two-by-fours. Waxed rope were used to tie the pieces of material together to create long wooden houses or plank houses.
The Achomawi people are one of eleven bands of the Pit River Tribe of northeastern California. They lived in villages. In the summer they lived in cone-shaped homes covered with a tule mat. They also used windbreaks of brush or mats. In the winter these homes were dug into the ground, had wooden frames and a covering of bark, grass and tule.
