It uses a special kind of transmission fluid that you can only get from the dealer. Cost about $14 per quart, but it is what you must use.
Type IV or the newer type IV which is backwards compatible.

I was told by the auto parts store that new aveos use AFT T IV- and it can only be bought from the dealer here is a substitue for t-iv tranny fluid that is required in 2004 Chevy aveo. dex/merc http://www.valvoline.com/products/brands/maxlife/automatic-transmission-fluid/37 The owner's manual will have the exact specification for this car.
