20w-50 same as engine oil; my new answer I've always used 80-90 but it gets hot here in the desert
sporsters are all the same. they are what is called a unit case. this means engine and tranny are in the same case. unlike other hogs which have two cases, one for engine and one for tranny. so you dont check oil in sporster tranny because same oil for engine is tranny oil also. hope this helps yall.
good site
Can you? Yes. Should you? Absolutely not, if you want your Harley engine to last. Replace the filter every time you change the oil.
80W 90 if using conventional. If using synthetic, 20W 50 will work. Also harley has Formula +.
It uses a special blend Tranny/primary lube.
Usually it's called transmission oil. For example I use red line transmission oil in both my motorcycles(Harley,Ducati)
You can use the same oil that you use in your motor
Harley recommends their own Formula+ but I prefer Red Line Heavy ShockProof gear oil. http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=44&pcid=8
what type of oil for a 1993 Harley Sportster 883
24 ounces.
harley recommends 20/50
Under the transmission. Its very easy to get to.
