The Panasonic DVD recorder/VCR combo unfortunately doesn't come with a digital tuner. It must be purchased seperately.

what is the difference between a vcr & dvd combo with out tuner & one with. as far as recording a show on a vhs tape?
The samsung V9800 unfortunately doesn't come with a digital tuner, but your TV may have one in it.

DVD VCR Combo connected to HD TV cant pick up digital TV. For it to work it has to be connected to a tuner which is purchased.
To record TV programs with it while watching another channel like you can with an ordinary VCR.

However there are many different brands of Televisions with a tuner and it really depends on the amount of money that you have to spend as to which television you would be best suited to buying. All Televisions have an inbuilt tuner, which is not always used especially if you have a set top box that receives cable.

Tivo is a seperate company, and their machines do not have DVD support. However a Media Center computer with a DVD ROM and a TV tuner will play both DVDs and Record TV.
Go into your user's menu and select the channel search function. It should allow you to search both analog and digital channels providing it has a digital tuner.
