Whether you are doing salt or fresh water tank. Most tap water is fine to use, you must be de-clor which takes out the cholorine that cities use to treat the water. You also must let the water sit for 24-48 hours to get to room temp. Then when you get the fish you acclamate them to the water by keeping them in the bag they come in and attaching the bag somehow to side of tank so they dont get shocked from putting into different temp water than what is int he bag. Usually 2-4 hours is enough. Keep your receipt for the fish, most good stores will guarantee their fish up to two weeks. Petsmart does and Walmart does. Dont forget to only take out a little over half of the water when its time to change the water. You leave the rest so that you leave the good bacteria that the fish work so hard to create in the tank and once a week feeding is ample, fish only have a 3 second attention span, so they dont even know when the last time they were fed. Of course if you feed them they will eat but its not good for them....

∙ 17y agoyou need to put your fish in tap water that has been TREATED, AND NOT COLD OR HOT BUT KIND OF WARM...then let it set out over night to adjust to room temp. Treated- use declornator...its very cheap You should put your fish in spring water but make sure it's WARM .(my betta likes springwater) :P The above answers are good if you have fresh water fish, but will kill a salt water fish. Make sure you know what kind of fish you have.

∙ 17y agoRegular cold water will do just fine. They don't need aquarium heaters, but they do like it to be anywhere from 65-72 degrees. Basically, whatever temperature is comfortable for you - set the fish bowl in your environment and it will be just as comfortable.

∙ 12y agoBottled water works, or if you own a dehumidifier you can use the water in there for your tank. If you use tap water i suggest you get droplets to put in it that gets the chlorine out of it.

Provided the tank is large enough to house them all (1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water) Guppies and Bettas should get along OK.

(absolute minimum sized tank for 2 female Bettas is around 5 gals) :- Every fish tank needs a continuously running cycled filter. :- Every fish tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week. If you follow the above rules you will have few problems keeping fish healthy. If you fail in any of them I can guarantee that your fish will constantly be getting sick and dying.

No. The tank is not large enough to house two female bettas. The basic fish keeping rule is "1 inch of fish needs 1 Gallon of water". A female Betta grows to around 1.5 inches so you would need at least a 3 gallon tank to house the 2 Bettas properly.

Male Bettas make bubbles on the surface of their tank when they are wanting to breed. The water should not be thick though. Maybe you need to change some water and also clean the tank out.

Follow those rules and you should be OK. A female Betta is about a 2 inch fish. Your 16 gallon tank will actually contain less than that because no tank is ever filled to the brim so assume it actually is holding about 14 gallons. This would give you an absolute maximum of 14 inches of fish which in the case of female Bettas would be a maximum of 7 fish. I would say a responsible stocking rate for that tank would be 5 female Bettas.
