What types of art does Mexico have?

All kinds. From "classic" fine and plastic arts such as music, painting, sculpture and architecture to modern variations like films and videogames. This concept is very broad, so several examples are provided:

Music

• Pre-Columbian and folkloric music, mostly for representation purposes.
• More modern (1950s) Mariachi Music.

Paintings

• Ancient drawings and codices explaining life and traditions of ancient cultures such as the Maya or Aztec.
• Modern paintings of renowned artists like Diego Rivera (1886-1957) or Frida Kahlo (1907-1954).

Sculpture and jewelry

• Clay and wood figurines, as well as gold, silver and jade ornaments crafted during pre-Columbian times.
• Modern handcrafts, including Oaxacan black pottery, talavera pottery from the state of Puebla or amber and silver jewelry from the state of Guerrero.

Architecture

• Aztec and Mayan decorations on buildings and pyramids found throughout Mexico.
• Post-modern building designs, like the National Auditorium in Mexico City.

Film

• Movies like The Crime of Father Amaro (2002), Let's Go With Pancho Villa (1936) or Nazarin(1959).
• Modern acclaimed Hollywood productions with Mexican directors at the helm would include Pan's Labyrinth (2006) and Pacific Rim (2013) directed by Guillermo del Toro or Children of Men (2006) and Gravity (2013) directed by Alfonso Cuaron.

Literature

• Poems and writings from ancient pre-Columbian cultures, like the Mayan Popol Vuh or several poems written by Texcocan ruler and poet Netzahualcoyotl (1402-1472).
• Writings, poems and novels written by modern Mexican writers like Octavio Paz (1914-1998), Rosario Castellanos (1925-1974) or Carlos Fuentes (1928-2012).

Both the sombrero and poncho or zarape are the best known Mexican handcrafts. There are however, many more such as talavera pottery, alebrije figurines or Mexican dolls.
