If you can, always try to separate different species of fish. If you do not have enough space to the try putting small fish with small fish and big fish with big ones. Which fish are you specifically taking about?

A nine gallon tank is a little small for tropical fish its suggested that the smallest size tank for tropical fish be 10 gallons. But if you are unwilling to upgrade or just put a betta in the tank then you could put four or five guppies in the tank but you have to remember if you want male and females you have to have 2-3 females for every male in the tank. You could also put danios or glofish in the tank which you have to have at least 3 of sense they are schooling fish. I wouldn't recommend putting more the five fish in the tank. Also if you want tropical fish the tank has to have a filter and a heater because the fish need the water to be filtered constantly and a constant temperature of 78 degrees. You also need to do a 25% water change every week and it is a good idea to gravel vac the tank every month.

Beautiful, independent and generally easy to care for, tropical fish make excellent pets. Before heading out to the local fish or pet store, it's a good idea to decide whether you are interested in having a freshwater aquarium or a marine aquarium. In their most basic sense, tropical fish are split into two categories based on which environment they live in. Most fish and pet stores offer both freshwater and marine tropical fish.

While you need not be a chemist to maintain a healthy and beautiful aquarium of tropical fish, knowing the basics of how to keep them alive and comfortable is essential. Home test-kits can help you gauge and regulate things such as the pH, oxygen and nitrate levels. In marine tanks, the salinity of the water needs to be tested regularly and can be manipulated with dissolving tablets. Airflow is also needed to keep the water oxygenated and to inhibit algae build up. The temperature of a tank should never change more than two degrees over the course of 48 hours.

How much and how often to feed your tropical fish will vary based on a few factors. Definitely attain information about what and when to feed your tropical fish at the time of purchase. The most common mistake that new owners and children make is overfeeding. Overfeeding can make the fish sluggish, the water musky and the tank in need of constant cleaning. Tank cleaning is easily the least glamorous element of fish ownership, but it needs to be done from time to time.

Owning tropical fish has been known to decrease stress levels and is a quick way to add a touch of class to your living quarters. The incredible bounty of color and the uniqueness of each tropical fish essentially makes them living works of art. Interestingly, the color from freshwater tropical fish comes mainly from the scientific property of iridescence, which is the same principle behind the spectrum of color that appears in a large bubble. Marine tropical fish get their amazing and vivid colors primarily from pigments. Most tropical fish owners enjoy collecting a wide range of species of various sizes and colors.

While it is true that some tropical fish can be a little on the expensive side, they are generally easy to attain, easy to maintain and provide nonstop fascination through constant motion.

Almost any fish can live together. Like if you put 2 beta and 2 goldfish in the same tank then you would have no problem. Just don't put in any piranhas. :p
