gomphosis
Although there are many joints in the skull, most are fused or immovable. The only bone that is free moving is the mandible, the lower jaw. The joints that connect the tooth to the socket are gomphosis joints, which allow little to no movement.
SutureS
Suture and gomphosis are both fibrous joints that are synarthrosis.
The joints that are most remembered for their sutures are the fibrous joints. These joints only occur in the skull and are bound together by Sharpey's fibers.

The cranial sutures are fibrous joints, also known as synarthroses.
There are six types of synovial joints in the body. They are also called freely movable joints. They consist of: ball-and-socket, hinge, pivot, saddle, ellipsoidal, and gliding. The gliding joints (carpal bones) aka planar joints (move in a plane). The ellipsoidal joints (metacarpals) aka condylar joints.
