Anything on a drive including the drive can be shared, devices such as printers or network adapters, & camera's etc. Exceptions would be system files and program files which are attached to the registry of a said computer. You may be able to see the files in a explorer window but unless setup on the executing system there would be flags stopping any attempts.

Sounds easy enough right? It does get tricky, starting with what is called permissions, rights and ownership of any data & hardware to be shared. Also there are the hardware and driver configurations, network types and protocols, (which are computing communication language's ) the domain and sub-domain configurations, gateway's, firewalls, security, and ISPs (a internet service provider.) Just when you think the later is all set correctly configured and working, there may be more issues arise depending on the environment.

I am only guessing you would like just to share a folder or two and maybe a printer? Without the brain damage correct? If you are using a computer from at least this century this is really not to difficult for one who is familiar with basic networking architecture. Use the setup Wizards, setting up a connection type of broadband "always on". Then finish up the wizard and in most cases if the ground work is done correctly, you're up an sharing pretty quick!

A couple things I will share with you about this topic may save you some brain damage.

First off if this is a situation where one would like to share a desktop at home and work, there are options using a cloud drive for syncing folders between computers. (two or even more) I use Zumodrive which is real nice (one or two free gigs!), for the home and work or even a multiple location use for syncing and sharing files. Google offers many options now also, great if you use G mail and everything Google. I just checked and Zumodrive be gone? There are other options "O" plenty, just look for desktop sync or cloud drive etc.

Setting up a basic network, some things to look out for:

Computer Names

Sharing enabled

User rights

Firewall settings for IP address and port access

Network errors of any kind

Security between the WideAreaNetwork "WAN and LocalAreaNetwork "LAN"

adapter connections set for home or work office - Not Public!

Learn to use the ping command

After all is set just right the network will work like a champ. There are plenty of resources online and in windows help for learning, questions, and any issues. Just search for setting up a LAN or a small office network. When you're up and running all that is left is to simply right click a file, folder, or drive and share > advance sharing, then naming the share and giving it permissions.

Good luck, I hope this is helpful?
