Everyone uses nitrogen all day every day. The earth's atmosphere is 78% nitrogen so you are breath it with every breath and it helps the body absorb oxygen and stabilizes your blood. It is also used in tires on airplanes and in airplane struts because it doesn't expand or contract as much as plain air. When it is kept below 370 degrees it will be in liquid form and can be used by doctors to freeze off warts or skin growths. It is used industrially for all manner of things.

Nitrogen is inaccessible to most living organisms as a gas (N2). Nitrogen gas must first be "fixed" by soil bacteria living in association with the roots of particular plant like legumes, clover, alfalfa, soybeans, peas, peanuts, and beans.
Living on nodules around the roots of legumes, the bacteria chemically combine nitrogen in the air to form nitrates (NO3) and ammonia (NH3) making it available to plants.
This is part of the Nitrogen cycle.

Examples:
Diazotrophs
Cyanobacteria
Azotobacteraceae
Rhizobia
Frankia
