Cold hardy greens like escarole are a good pick for the winter garden. Carrots and other root crops also work well. Make sure to talk to you extension agent for a list of vegetables the will work in the winter garden.

It is not wise to plant any vegetables in the winter. There are some that can be harvested in winter but not any that you can plant.
You can plant Brussels sprouts but i would suggest my personal favourite CUCUMBER; this will only take a month to grow and tastes absolutely amazing added to a garden fresh garden salad!!!
