The Jewish view concerning the messiah is based upon the words of the Prophets. The relevant prophecies have not yet been fulfilled. They are:
* Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28).
* Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6).
* Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred and oppression. "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, nor shall they learn war any more" (Isaiah 2:4).
* Spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. "God will be King over all the world. On that day, God will be One and His Name will be One" (Zechariah 14:9).
* The messiah must be descended on his father's side from King David (Genesis 49:10 and Isaiah 11:1).
* The messiah will lead the Jewish people to full Torah-observance. The Torah states that all of its mitzvot (commands) remain binding forever.
Answer 1He would crush the romans, and He would set up the Gentiles as a ruling nation.Answer 2From the Jewish perspective, the Jews did not have any false views or misconceptions about what the person and work of the Messiah was to be. It just so happens that no person who has ever walked this Earth has fulfilled those requirements. Christians often agree that Jesus Christ has not performed all of the requirements that Jews have placed before the Messiah, but argue that there are one of three reasons that he did not do so.Additional Requirements: Jews hold that the Messiah is required to comport with the Old Testament Laws and codes. This would give the Messiah the requirement to follow numerous older and more difficult laws. Jesus made clear that these laws were abolished in his New Covenant. From the Christian perspective, the requirement that the Messiah need to follow the exact regimentation of the Old Law was incorrect.Misunderstood Requirements: The Christians allege that Jews expected certain prophecies to be fulfilled in certain ways. For example, Jews have a prophecy that the Messiah will bring everlasting life and they expect that they will therefore receive immortality in this world. Jesus gave Everlasting Life to those who accept Communion; it is just that the Everlasting Life is spiritual, not physical and therefore different than the Jews expected. Similarly, the Jews expected that Kingdom of God to be an actual country that would be on Earth as opposed to a description of the Heavenly abode. The Jews maintained that the prophecies needed to be fulfilled as originally interpreted.Requirements to be Fulfilled: Christians acknowledge that there are some prophecies that Jesus did not perform in this lifetime, but they argue that these will be performed on his return. The two biggest ones are Universal Peace and All People Knowing and Acknowledging God as the Sovereign. Jews were expecting all of these things to happen in one coming as opposed to two.
