The covered freight wagon associated with the westward expansion was called a Conestoga wagon because they were manufactured in Conestoga, Pennsylvania.
People got to Oregon by using the road called The Oregon Trail.
The Oregon Trail
When the settlers traveled the trail in the mid-1700's it was a little,old Indian trail. Then more and more settlers traveled the old Indian trail and the trail began to get larger.Soon enough the trail was big enough for wagons to travel the trail and then they named the trail The Great Wagon Road.
It was used by many settlers as they moved west.
Check out the mass wagon train migration on the Overland Trail in your local library. It will give you a span of 10 years in the late 1800's. Some of the most interesting reading you will ever do.
