When the colonists arrived in America they had an idea based of manifest destiny where it was their duty to expand and use imperialistic ideas. The colonists tried to take land to colonize that simply wasn't theirs. This caused the Natives to be mad at the colonists. But keep in mind, there were a lot of colonies that thrived off of native ideas. The natives taught them many fishing, hunting cropping methods that made the colonies thrive, and in return the colonies would give them new battle methods. Like the introduction to gun powder.
The basic problem with Native Americans and the English colonists was their different world views. Native tribes had lived thousands of years on their lands and had established ways of life. They took care of the land, preserving the animals living on it, and planted crops that were native. They viewed the world as a continuation of life and they were a part of that circle. No one owned the land and they were the caretakers of it. The English and European settlers had a world view that they could take what they wanted. They came from a world with kings, fences, and landlords, but when they landed in the New World they saw land without the fences and they discounted the Native tribes as unimportant. As far as they were concerned the empires of Native Americans were there to enslave, kill, or take away lands. When settlers came they also brought plants, animals, and insects with them and this disrupted the natural ecosystem. If a Native American killed an English hog for invading the crops they had planted the settler demanded payment for the hog. The settlers felt they owned the land when they put a fence and house on it. They chopped down the trees, killed animals for sport, and didn't view themselves in relationships with the environment. They didn't see man as part of the cycle of life. These views between the two societies created the foundation for conflict, control of the land, and the death/destruction of whole ways of life for the Native Americans. It became a mass genocide of a people.
