Most of the Call of Duty games are set in World War 2, the only games to break this trend are Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which are (as evident by their names) set in modern times.

It's not the whole game that goes down. It's usually specific servers. And it automatically turns back on.
That's on the publishers discretion, they decide whether the game goes classic and when. i thought it had to sell 1 million copies...(or was that just for ps2 platnuim)
