Several important wars occurred in the few years after World War 2 ended. Most important to the United States was the Korean War (1950 - 53). A fierce civil war erupted in Greece. The Viet Minh rebellion in Vietnam against French occupiers began. Threatened rebellion in the Philippines did not become a major war (except to Filipinos) as that country won independence from the United States. A communist revolt in Indonesia occurred and was put down with brutal force. Algeria began a war of independence against French rule. The largest war was the conflict between the Nationalist and Communist Chinese which resulted in the complete Communist takeover of the country. A large civil war broke out in India as that country completed its independence from Great Britain resulting in a separate nation of Pakistan; that war would flare up again many times.
