Why did the Woodstock event happen?

There was the biggest outdoor rock fest ever, on August 15-18, 1969. Thousands of people came to Woodstock (actually held near Bethel in upstate New York) to listen to the likes of Janice Joplin, Jimmi Hendrix and many others for 3 days of musical performances. This was a major display of the 1960s counter-culture (hippies) and anti-war movements. There was considerable use of illicit drugs. Conditions were sunny and hot, but there was also rain that turned some of the concert grounds into massive mud pits. (see related link below)

What were the accomplishments of Woodstock?

People from all around came to this music festival of a lifetime. It was 3 days of acceptance of who you are. The festival took place in a time of war and racial judgment. But this festival broke all judgments of what color you were what race you were and what back round you came from. Although the concert reached 500,000 people more than half the amount they accounted for there was little violence which people say is due to drug use. It also revolutionized Rock and Roll.

What caused Woodstock 1969 to happen?

In spite of negative news reports in the beginning, Woodstock was a success, Michael Lang did what he set out to do, put on an outdoor concert event. Considering the amount of people gathered in one place the event was historic, there was no violence and many people donated food. The organizers did not make any money, and were sued by numerous vendors and nearby farmers, so in that respect it could be seen as a disaster, but the performers, attendees and organizers don't view it as such.
