She was a very intelligent woman and a early feminist. In her letters to her husband she asked him to make sure that women's rights were considered when writing the constitution. As a mother of 6 children (two who would die young) she was concerned about the British raiding their farm outside of Boston and her husband told her to hide in the woods if they came. Letters to her husband also tell of shortages of things when the British seized Boston and she watched the Battle of Bunker Hill from the yard. She was a brave woman and must have been worried about the farm and children as the revolution continued.
