Michel Angelo Merisi or Amerighi da ( 1559-1609). He was born at Caravaggio and his father was a mason who employed him in preparing plaster for the fiesco painters of Milan. After years of studying the works of the great masters he went to Venice and Rome. Cardinal del Monte noticed his work, but because he had problems with anger he killed a man, fled to Milan and was able to obtain the favor of the Grand Master. In making his way back to Rome he was wounded, lost his baggage, caught a fever and when he reached Porto Ercole laid down on one bank and died. His work today is in the Uffzi Gallery in Florence.
