Deborah Sampson feared that she would be identified as a woman during the war. When she got shot in the thigh, she even took the bullet out of her leg herself so her gender wouldn't be discovered by the doctor.
Deborah Sampson, a woman who disguised herself as a man to serve in the Revolutionary War, married Benjamin Gannett in 1785. Benjamin Gannett did not die before Deborah; in fact, they remained married until her death in 1827. He outlived her, passing away in 1849.
Deborah Sampson died in the battle field because she got shot then the doctor found out she was a female but she had already past away

Deborah Sampson's adopted child, a daughter named Susannah, was born in 1783. Sampson, known for disguising herself as a man to serve in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, adopted Susannah after her marriage to Benjamin Gannett.
