O'Keeffe, who had not been consulted about the exhibit, met with Stieglitz and agreed to let him continue to show the paintings. Their association grew from there. Eventually they married.

When Edward Steichen tried to bring the sculpture "Bird in Space" to the United States in 1927, it was classified as a piece of industrial metal by customs officials who imposed a duty fee on it.
