Germany before the common era (0 AD to present) was not organized as well as the ancient Chinese, Romans, Greeks, Spartans, Ottomans or Egyptians, and therefore did not have one single great warrior, such as the samurai, or the gladiator. Germany was still largely unsettled, and the few tribes. It wasn't until 455 AD, when an East Germanic barbarian tribe called the Vandals sacked Rome that Germany gained its first true "ancient" warrior. Germanic militarism was not fully established until the rule of Frederick William II (aka the Soldier King) of Prussia in the early 18th century. Frederick's obsession with the army lead to the creation of one of the most powerful armies in Europe at the time and a militaristic culture that would last for over two hundred years until the end of World War II with the defeat of the Nazis and Adolf Hitler, the second reviver of Germanic militarism.
