Medina is where Muhammad and his followers migrated during the Hijrah and allowed Islam to flourish and spread. Jerusalem, which was conquered by the second caliphate Umar, is now where the Dome of the Rock stands and reminds Muslims of the place where they think Muhammad ascended to Heaven.
