Christ was born so that the transgression of Adam and Eve with have no effect upon mankind. Man would have lived forever in his sins. Someone had to pay the price for that transgression and only a perfect man could do that. Christ was the only perfect man to live upon the earth, so the task fell upon him to give his life so that the debt might be paid. The debt is only affective if each son and daughter of God are fully repentant of their sins. This will allow them not only to have immortality but also to have eternal life i.e To live in the presence of God.
