His main quarrel with theology was that it did not say that Martin Luther was pope, and that only the Church could interpret the Scriptures which she had written and guaranteed instead of himself. Further, the theology of his day called him to be holy, and to follow Christ's commands, which, though based on the Ten Commandments, were far stricter. Martin Luther wanted to sin boldly and still be saved, he did not want to follow the Scriptural admonition that faith without works was dead.
