Prostitute
There is no record other then that fabricated by the catholic church approximately 350 years after the death of Christ exactly what Mary Magdalene was. Women of the day did not have professions. It seems very likely however that she was both a disciple and had a close personal relationship with Jesus. Presenting her as a prostitute was the churches way of gaining popularity with men and putting women in their place which is something that persisted for many years into today. Or that most uninformed protestants just decide for everyone else what the catholic Church really means and promotes, especially when it comes to treating women with dignity. Study fact before you spread fiction.
The Catholic Church has found no scriptural evidence that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute nor is there any evidence that she had any other profession.
The Bible does not tell us a thing about Mary Magdalene's childhood and in fact it does not tell us much about her adulthood.
