Mendeleev's table was not unique nor entirely original, and it had several errors that - had they not been corrected by himself and later scientists - woudl have resulted in it being thrown out like most others.

However, the key innovation involved in Mendeleev and similar tables was the ordering through atomic number, not solely by properties. Atomic Mass was used as an indicator of number, but this has a couple of obvious issues (e.g. isotopes) and meant that the first tables were not so perfect nor reliable.
