Getting Ireland it's independence from the british. he signed the 1921 treaty.

between 1914 and 1916 Michael Collins was working in London as a financial trader in Whitehall London. he played Gaelic football for the London team against a scottish side in 1914 in Liverpool. he was secretary to Geraldins GAA club from 1905-1915.1909 he was sworn into the I.R.B. (Irish Repulician Brotherhood). he left London in January 1916 & returned to Dublin to partake in the Easter Rising. imprisioned until Dec.1916. freed and returned to Ireland. Jan 1917 worked as an accountant in Dublin keeping his interest in the I.R.B. April 1918 arrested for making speech against British Rule but jumped bail and went on the run. elected as Sinn Fein member in south Cork in 1918 and took a seat in the first Government in Jan.1919 as Minister for Home Affairs. Later became General M. Collins of the Irish Free State Army during the Civil War 1922.

As a response to the first answer, Michael Collins was sent to England to negotiate an Irish republic with the British government. He was sent by deValera who knew a united republic was not possible. He was used as a scapegoat for losing the six counties in northern Ireland. He was not a politician and should never have been sent to negotiate.

Micheal Collins was nothing but a puc goat from county cork that rose from a british state occupation to cripple the empire . Ireland was the second country to gain its freedom from the british empire after America . he used his education and knowledge of the brithish system to defeat his occupiers . through out the centries Ireland tryed to rid its country from England ( which we must not forget we did invite them here ) using 1798 rising and the french trying to defeat an empire as skilled in war fare that could never be defeated by war .Micheal Collins created a new type of war fare that is still used in many countries now ( gurillia war ) the from of tactics that no person could be identified or uniform be used . How could any country defeat an army that they could not see . with the promise fo freedom rejected after 1918 and the fear of the gurilla war be brought to London . Ireland was asked to the table of cease fire . Micheal Collins was not a politician but probibly the greatest tactiction since nelson which England could not match .the possibility of Micheal Collins life remaining this country would have experienced the the Celtic tiger in 1925 and would have been the wealthest country of all negoiceations example the rebuilding of Germany and Japan after the second world war now the head of all trade currencies
