The campaigns of 1805 & 1806: The Battles of Austerlitz & Jena/Auerstadt. And prior to that the Ulm campaign which was so comprehensive that no battle was needed, Mack von Lieberich surrenders his Austrian force. But if we go to Italy at the end of the previous century we see the building block for what leads to the Imperial greatness. Never mind Poland in 1939 or France in 1940, the Biltzkreig starts here. Put simply it is that the Column is mightier than the Line in attack, it is much more dynamic & devastating. It brings shock. Or it did, before the British are prepared to stand on the reverse of the hill in Spain and deliver volley & charge ! But against the continental forces of Austria, Russia & Prussia Napoleon is, for much of the time, without comparison.
