yes and no. before the beatles john had a band called the Quarrymen, with other people. then Paul joined that and after him George. Ringo was the only official one to join a the band when it was named The Beatles. paul wasn't the second one to join the quarrymen either, but he was the second beatle to join the quarrymen.
Hmm... John was 16/17 when he started the "band", and Paul joined when he was 15. George joined as well, as the youngest, at the age of 14. They were "The Quarrymen", though.
The Beatles? they were earlier called The quarrymen and breifly changed there name to the silver beatles. Lennon formed the band and later McCartney joined and then Harrison and then best. However Ringo Starr soon replaced him after the other 3 Beatles had disagreements with him.
