Portuguese perspective on Moorish rule in North Africa is simple.
1- Portugal was a Catholic country, as all europeans at the time. Muslim rulers in North Africa were seen as infidels, and crusades trying to expel them were famous.
2 - Portugal was a small country in the XV century. It had no human power to fight the recently united Castile and Aragon Kingdom to gain more territory, and it's share of the peninsula was to small to generate money to support the troops needed to prevent it's neighbour's annexation as it had been making with other kingdoms. The only joice was to conquer space in North Africa.
3- Muslims controlled asian routs from India to Europe, and Ceuta, was the last stop. Portugal saw it's way to richness if he controlled that routs, so in 1415 he conquered Ceuta. Obviously the muslims changed the rout, and Portugal started conquering city by city in Northern Africa, till 1580,when it became almost a ritual among the portuguese court.
4- At the same time, trying to avoid the fact that Northern Africans wouln't stop to change the routs of asian goods, Portugal started to try to navigate around Africa to arrive in India, which it did in 1498.
So, in conclusion, Northern African muslims, were seen as a religious threat, a start to richness, and sparkled the start of the Portuguese Empire.
