The war occured from 28 July 1914 until Armistice 11 November 1918, (the Treaty of Versailles was signed the year after.) The war was a deadly conflict between two groups, the Allies and the Central Powers.

On 28 June 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assasinated. The perpetrator was a Serbian by the name of Gavrilo Princip. As a result, since many nations had alliances with oneanother, the war was triggered. The fact that many nations operated as empires didn't help the situation (Germany, Ottoman, etc). Each group lost in excess of 15 million soldiers: For the Allies, approximately 22 million MIA, KIA, or WIA; roughly sixteen million MIA, KIA, or WIA for the Central Powers.
