Samarians or Samaritans were residents of Samaria and may have been descended partly from the remnant Israelites allowed by the Assyrians to remain in Samaria and partly from the various peoples who were brought in to replace the Israelites taken into exile. They were implacable enemies of the Jews since they overran Samaria during the second century BCE. Samaritans had become monotheistic, worshipping one God but with many differences compared to the religion of their southern Jewish neighbours. Almost all the Samaritans eventually adopted the Jewish religion but a small community of Samaritans remains in modern Israel.
She traveled with Jesus and the disciples and other women as Jesus went about preaching in Judea and Samaritan areas so she lived at the same time as Jesus.
SamaritansLuk 17:16 He threw himself to the ground at Jesus' feet and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan.
Jesus then told a parable about 'the good Samaritan'.
One parable that Jesus told was about the Good Samaritan. The story was to get people thinking about their neighbors.
In John 4:12 Jesus asks "Are you greater than our father Jacob..." Jesus was talking to the Samaritan woman at the well. She was amazed that anyone would allow a Samaritan to drink from this well as they were not liked by other Jews. Jesus told the Samaritan woman he could give her a drink that she would never be thirsty again. This of course was in reference to the word of his preaching.
Jesus counseled Nicodemus on the importance of being born again spiritually to enter the kingdom of God (John 3:1-21), while with the Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus highlighted the living water he offers, symbolizing eternal life and true worship (John 4:1-42). The conversation with Nicodemus focused on spiritual rebirth, while the encounter with the Samaritan woman emphasized the availability of salvation to all, regardless of social or religious background.
The parable of the 'good Samaritan' is found at : Luke 10:30-37
Jesus told the story; Luke transcribed it later

Jesus told the Parable of the Good Samaritan to explain the meaning of neighbor. In this parable, a man is helped by a Samaritan, who goes out of his way to assist someone in need regardless of their background or beliefs, showing that a neighbor is anyone who shows compassion and kindness to others.
AnswerThe gospels say that Joseph and Mary were Jews, not Samaritans.
In the parable of the Good Samaritan, the Samaritan served Jesus' purpose to illustrate the importance of showing compassion and helping others, regardless of perceived differences or prejudices. Samaritans were seen as outcasts in Jewish society, yet the Samaritan in the parable showed kindness and mercy, emphasizing the universal message of love and care for all.
