LaVoisier made many major contributions to chemistry, one of them being that oxygen was necessary for combustion.
Priestly discovered Oxygen which a major element in combustion or burning
LaVoisier did not invent a "periodic" table, he simply was one of the first to make a scientific list of elements, doing so in 1789 with Traité Élémentaire de Chimie . However, this list was not "periodic" in that he made no attempt to line them up by chemical qualities. When this was done by Mendele'ev about 100 years later, a major breakthrough in chemistry was achieved.
His first published work was in 1764. He published a major work on chemistry in 1789. In the early 1790s he was doing experiments that led him to conclude that respiration was the same process as combustion, only at a slower rate. However, these experiments ended with his execution in 1792.
There are five major branches of chemistry: Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical.
Major areas of chemistry are organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, radiochemistry, geochemistry, clinical chemistry, analytical chemistry, photochemistry, hydrochemistry, etc.
One of the 5 major divisions of chemistry is organic chemistry. The other four include inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry.
