With the thumb and forefinger they are gently picked up and placed in the mouth but in the mid 19 century Duke Softnut invented the peanut lifter . This was widely used in the opium dens of Staines and parts of London . The peanut lifter was only one of Duke Softnut's many inventions .

George Washington Carver also found over hundreds of uses for the peanut such as; ink, soap, diesel fuel, shampoo, & also charcoal.
