Brigham Young had to solve many problems. He had to figure out how to get hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom were unaccustomed to travel and to the wild west, across the plains to Utah. He had to figure out how to organize them and teach them survival skills. He had to learn how to deal with living in a home surrounded by scores of wives and children. He had hundreds of thousands of people looking to him for all of their religious and temporal needs in a land that was hostile with very few supplies.
